Set of 2 Burmese lacquerware trays or plates. This is a traditional craft known as yun-de in Burmese, is created using the sap of the varnish tree.
Made from a base of sturdy woven rattan or wood coated with many layers of the tree sap to make it sturdy and glossy.
Intricate fine linear designs of elephants were created using the yun (incised) technique where designs are etched into the lacquer surface and then filled with colored pigments.
Excellent condition. One tiny spot on the edge of one of the plates and elephant leg that you have to search for. (See last pics)
There are other lacquered plates sold online but I haven’t found any using these colors.
